Each year I am blessed with a minimum of 20 blank canvases. Children with endless possibilities if someone shows faith in them. They are a melting pot of society with various faces, languages, backgrounds and sometimes unimaginable circumstances. Faces that sometimes are overlooked or neglected by others but leave an imprint on my heart. I became a teacher to work with these children. Children who are not necessarily the next Nobel Prize winner but maybe someone that can break the cycle of illiteracy and educational failure. My children are not able to learn in the conventional ways due to mental, physical, or situational experiences. It takes creative materials, visuals, and tactile tools to introduce simple lessons. Schools are not always able to provide the level of tools necessary for academic success. I am hoping that someone will open their heart and help me provide an atmosphere for growth to children in need of a little more love and attention.
