I chose many STEM building materials such as the Maker Kit Simple Machines, K'NEX Exploring Machines, Solar Robot, Hydraulic Arm, Design and Play STEAM Kits, because our students do not get the opportunity to experience this type of learning. We have many students that have very creative brains and do not get to use them in a positive, team building, hands on approach to learning. They fight book work and these projects will show their intelligence to staff, parents, and most importantly, to themselves. They too have the power to use their minds in other ways by building the different types of robots like the EM4 Robot, the tumbling robot and the solar can motor robot and then seeing their creation in action, running and working because of their work. They do not have to fight their way through life; they should be able to leave their emotional trauma behind them and excel in other ways. I believe this will motivate many to come to school each day knowing that they are contributing to a team and together building things while watching their hard work come into action. These products will be used as a summer school class and lead into a class at school in which will hopefully lead to a robotics team. I have seen how many of my students are very creative and into LEGO bricks. This would be the next step. These are all great brain building, team building and cooperative learning skills in which all of our students need.
