Dyslexic students struggle on a daily basis to decode the text that surrounds them. They work so very hard to break the code and be able to "see" what comes easy to so many other students. Using hands-on manipulatives and high-interest text helps motivate students to continue on and not give up. Dyslexic students work so very hard and are super smart! They possess many strengths that are often overshadowed by their dyslexia. My job is to help them improve their reading, spelling, and comprehension skills while making sure they feel successful. Having supplies that are different from what they generally use in the regular classroom allows them to practice skills in a more hands-on, fun way. I never want my students to feel as though they are being punished when they come to my class. I only want them to feel confident and successful!
