I teach a very diverse culture. It is also my job to educate these minds to the cultures and ever growing world surrounding them. Cultural representation in our classroom library is vital. Students need to be able to relate to what is being read to them. They need to be able to make connections to the characters and events in the story. I want my students to feel eager to browse our classroom library with a sense of belonging, knowing that they are represented in it and in our classroom. I want the different cultures and races in our room to know that they are being represented and that we are eager to learn more.
