The use of technology is all around us. When you go to any store, you will find a young child riding in a stroller playing games on their parents smart phone. When you go to the doctors office, you can use a tablet to fill out information about your visit. Credit cards, bill pay, job and college applications can be found and filled out online. I believe all school aged children, especially those with disabilities should have access to additional material that will encourage them to learn in school. Many of my students are at the age where they have figured out they have difficulty learning. Some of them have become frustrated, tend to shut down and or dislike school all together. Having the use of these tablets will give my students the opportunity to learn new concepts, improve and practice certain academic skills. These skills will help them be able to navigate through the real world.
