My students each come from different backgrounds around the small town of New Zion, SC. Many of my students come to school with smiles on their faces and are ready to learn. However, our school has one of the lowest funding ratios in the state. As a Title I school in Clarendon County, we have around 55% of our students that receive free or reduced lunch. The poverty rate is estimated at approximately 70%. Walker Gamble Elementary serves students from prekindergarten through fifth grade. Despite low funding, WGE remains capable of providing students with everything they need in order to be successful in the future through love and support. The students in my classroom will one day be the future. I believe that they are something worth investing in.
