As a joy filled literacy teacher , I have taken on many personas while sharing great stories with my 1st graders. My students and I have sleuthed with Nate the Great, we have begged for an iguana with Alex, and we have heard our hearts beating in our ears with Sheila Rae, the Brave. I have modeled "becoming the character" in order to encourage my students to think deeply about the emotions, motivations, and actions of the characters we read about in books. My students have journaled, discussed, and created videos to interact and share ideas, questions and favorite parts in virtual book talks. This project will allow my students to continue to share their love of reading and get to know some new characters during the summer with a chapter book of their own. They will also have the opportunity to participate in a virtual book club with their classmates as they move ever closer to entering 2nd grade.
