These books will allow my students to learn about the importance of being kind to others, especially those that may be a little different from themselves. 5th grade is a challenging year for my students, as they are becoming young adults and preparing to go to middle school. I want to read this book with my students to instill compassion at a trying time for them, as well as foster a sense of community in our classroom. I like for my students to think of our class as a family, and I think reading this novel will encourage them to share their feelings and bring them closer together!
