This year my 7th grade classes will be reading S.E. Hinton's novel, The Outsiders. Many of my students struggle with pulling out key ideas and text evidence, as well as annotating a text. By having their own copy of this famous work, the students will be able to "Stop! Think! Jot!" their ideas, highlight vocabulary, and mark specific pages. If the students have their own copy of the novel, they will also be able to appreciate being given a gift that will mark their year with me in my class! Having these books in the classroom will engage my students and bring about a new-found love and respect for literature.
