My students live in the inner city of New York. They are very diverse and come from low-income families. My school has many challenges and is a work in progress. Many students are deficient in reading and writing skills; however, we have many dedicated teachers. I am passionate about science, and recognize it as a class that can be different than the others. Science is best learned through experiences, and if taught well, it can be a very engaging and hands-on class. I teach in nine classrooms, which is very challenging. Many of my students enjoy science, but they are always eager for more labs and experiments. I am very limited in my resources and abilities as a traveling teacher, but I try to be creative and give my students the science education they deserve. My students are very eager to learn. They are inquisitive and have so many questions. As they are entering their teenage years they have many choices. I want them to value education and work hard in school.
