Cooking in the classroom allows children varied opportunities to learn. They learn to follow directions by following a recipe. They learn to measure, therefore, learning math concepts. They also get to investigate and predict what will happen to the ingredients that they blend together and then see the results of the blending of ingredients. They also get to make and taste healthy recipes and those recipes are sent home for the parents to use as well. Healthy eating habits are taught through the cooking experiences. These are skills that may of my children do not get the opportunity to do at home. The items that I have requested will allow my children to see the cooking process from start to finish. For example, having a blender in the classroom allows them to see fruit start out as a solid and blend into a different consistency. The countertop range will allow them to see how the ingredients mix together and change. Now we have to send anything that we mix together to the kitchen to cook so the children lose out on the whole process.
