My students come to school on the first day with huge smiles and a brain ready to learn. Some students enter with backpacks with some supplies, some with empty backpacks, and some with no backpack at all. This project will allow me to provide equal opportunities for every smiling student that walks into my classroom regardless of what they are carrying on their backs. The materials I am requesting with provide students with what they need to reach their reading and writing goals in first grade. The notebooks with allow them to respond to the books they are readings, while at the same time learning to form their letters correctly. They will use the crayons to create detailed pictures to go along with their writing. They will also use these notebook to expand their vocabulary knowledge. The nameplates for their desks will provide them with a reminder on how to properly write their first and last name, an example of proper letter formation, a number line as a tool to become better mathematicians, and a spelling tool for their basic colors. Without these materials students would not have the opportunity to become the successful readers and writers they were meant to be!
