My students need to feel safe and comfortable before they are able to relax and learn. I have made curtains for the windows, used calming colors, and provided quiet spaces in the classroom for reading and breaks. These pillows and soft seats will get near constant usage during the school days. Students will use them during group work, reading times, and when they need to take a break. The blues and greens in these items will continue the calming atmosphere in our classroom. It is amazing to see how something as simple as making a student comfortable helps them to try something new. Having seating options also provides my students with a sense of control and dignity which they often lack in their lives outside of school.
