Third grade is the first school year in which students are required to take a statewide achievement test online. The writing portion will require students to read a few passages and then write about them. This type of task requires students to think deeper about topics and use evidence to support their thinking. This task involves planning, drafting, editing, revising, and writing a final copy. A huge task! Having a keyboard will allow students to accomplish this in a more efficient way. My students will greatly appreciate the use of a keyboard instead of having to use a touch keyboard which literally blocks visibility when trying to type a multi-paragraph essay.
