My students need a classroom library that sparks a love for reading with books like Legends of Zita the Spacegirl, The Black Cauldron, A Wrinkle in Time and other books. I remember when I first taught 5th grade and I couldn't get my students to foster a love for reading. This year I observed what my students chose to read. I noticed what genres intrigued them. I also realized I had an awful class library. Thankfully, our school library and the city library offered books that really sparked their interest. I want to be able to offer my current and future students a class full of books that I can introduce and get them excited about reading and all that reading has to offer. Books such as "Diary of a wimpy kid," " I survived," and "You are a girl who can do anything," open my ESL students to more vocabulary, ideas, and sentence structure. I want to light a fire in some and keep the fire burning in others. Kids just need exposure to good books and on level books to boost their confidence in reading. I have selected a great set of book in order to do that.
