My first grade students are very much like their contemporaries and this year could possibly be their most significant year of schooling. As first grade proceeds, my students are very active and they eagerly dive into developing deeper academic skills. At our school, students are sadly scoring below 50% in reading and mathematics in the yearly academic test. Our school is a Title I school and many participate in the free and reduced-priced lunch program. Parents of our students have limited time and resources to help reinforce and enrich learning at home. My students deserve every advantage and opportunity to soar in their educational process.
