Have you ever looked at the rules of a school? I have, and it was startling. Most all school rules come down to: sit still and stop talking. How strange that these are our rules when we know the best learning occurs with movement and collaboration. I also know it is a lot to ask students to sit still and stop talking for a long period of time. To help my students focus in school, we decided to borrow a “wobble stool” from another class. The wobble stool helps students by allowing them to move in a non-distracting way while they listen to instruction and in work time. These stools help students focus and learn. Unfortunately, we just had the one stool, and we have to give it back soon. Many students got to try out the stool and all of them said it helped them concentrate on the task at hand because they were not getting distracted by being uncomfortable in their chair.
