The money awarded from this grant would go towards buying Chromebooks so each student in my classroom would have a device. The Chromebooks would be used to transform the classroom to become conducive to the teaching and learning of 21st century skills, these are skills necessary for learners to be successful in their future careers and personal lives. Currently, we have 150 Chromebooks to serve the 820 student body. A need has become clear as the current supply of Chromebooks cannot keep up with the demand of the teachers wanting to incorporate technology into their lessons. Many teachers are using the Chromebooks to enhance the classroom and incorporate 21st Century skills. The current use of Chromebooks by teachers includes Google Classroom, which allows the teachers to assign projects and assignments virtually. The students are using various Google applications, such as Docs, Hangout, and Drive to collaborate, create, and submit these assignments. The use of applications to create flipped classroom lessons is being utilized to leave more time for critical thinking and exploration opportunities in the classroom. The IXL program is being used to enhance the math curriculum and has shown improvement in students test scores. Digital scavenger hunts have been created for students to explore concepts such as Georgia’s government, to make the concept more meaningful. Virtual field trips and dissection of animals have been accomplished through the use of the Chromebooks. The free curriculum from Everfi has allowed students to virtually explore topics in real world settings. Free coding apps have been used in classes for students to begin to explore the world of website design.
