The purpose of this project is to fund my seventh and eighth graders and give them the opportunity to learn another instrument! Why the ukulele? It's an affordable instrument that middle school students tend to manage well. It also happens to be an easy portable instrument and the students can take it home to practice. It's a great way for the students to learn harmony and music theory (advanced musical thinking and study). It's a great tool for ear training which would benefit a chorus student, band student, or improve any student's auditory and literacy skills. This is an instrument that you can sing and play at the same time which covers many things in my music curriculum.
