The purpose of this project is the creation of an Investigation Station for my first grade classroom. My request is for microscopes, binoculars, and nonfiction texts which will be utilized at a center devoted to student inquiry and research connected to our NGSS science standards. Students will use microscopes to observe sand, bark, plants, seashells, and more. Binoculars will allow us to go on bird watching field trips on our playground. Nonfiction text is a struggle for many children, and the books we are requesting will allow students to practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills to access and communicate scientific knowledge to their peers and parents. This research center would help generate curiosity about the world around us and would enable students to follow their interests, generate scientific questions, and work in collaboration with classmates as well as independently. Our students must be provided with hands-on science tools as well as nonfiction texts to facilitate and strengthen the connections between literacy and science skills. Please support my project to provide students with the scientific tools they need to prepare for the futures they face in the 21 century.
