About my class

How sweet it is to teach such inquisitive 5th graders ? I am a new teacher at our elementary School. We are located in the heart of Wynwood which is also a low-income area in Miami. Because of this, students lack access to various resources. 30% of the students we service live in shelters. We are a Title I school which means ninety-eight percent students qualify for free-reduced lunch which shows there need for access to resources. We are in a large urban area with 533 students. Our school serves students from eight different homeless shelters and drug-rehab facilities. Thirty-nine percent of our students are ELLs. Like most children, our students are curious, eager to learn new things, and open to new experiences. Unfortunately, their economic situations do not always allow them the opportunities afforded to other students. I am eagered to expose "my babies" to the a world beyond the walls of "Wywood !"
