My students typically enter 3rd grade performing below grade level. They are missing key building blocks to their foundational skills. As their teacher, it is my job to help support their learning by filling in the missing building blocks and helping my students achieve and demonstrate academic growth. In order to accomplish this, we require a lot of different resources to supplement their learning and the curriculum. I provide my students with a lot of printed books, poetry, and phonics work to help improve their reading proficiency. We also develop writing skills by allowing students to word process their work and we would like to print their stories for display. Additionally, providing students with printed math exercises also helps develop their number sense and gets students "thinking about their thinking". Our elementary school has one copy machine for over 25 classrooms and only a handful of printers to share throughout the building. There is often a backlog of printing jobs at the copy machine and printers. Items get lost, misplaced, and picked up by others all the time. A printer for our classroom would give me the opportunity to print materials when needed and necessary. I want to set my students up to make the most academic growth possible by giving them the resources and tools they deserve as students.
