My students come to school each day enthusiastic to learn. I want to create the best possible environment for them to learn in. I work in an elementary school in North Long Beach with over 1,000 students. At our school, 92% of students are socioeconomically disadvantaged. 40% of our students are English language learners, and in my classroom, that percentage rises to 48%. In my particular class, I have 35 students, of which 17 are English Language learners and one who is mainstreaming from Special Education day class. They all have a wide range of learning needs and levels. Despite many different and often difficult circumstances, they come to school with positive attitudes every day, ready to learn. They are motivated to do their best and to take in every opportunity put forward to them at school and it is my goal to provide them with as many engaging and enriching experiences that I can.
