There is no denying that computers are vital in today's education environment. At Empower Charter school we have made the push to ensure that our students have a 1:1 ratio of students to iPads or Chromebooks. Many of our students would otherwise not have access to these resources. We find this to be an incredible tool. However, this has left funding for staff computers lacking. As an educator, I do not have a computer. Our classroom teachers have MacBooks and integrate technology into the daily academics of their students. The ability to collaborate with all staff at our school to have thematic learning across all grades is a basic need. I am at this time hand writing lesson plans, relying on a personal phone to respond to emails and communicate with parents, borrowing computers from classroom teachers in order to print out learning materials and online trainings, etc. This results in delayed responses to important internal maters that address student needs and a decrease in my ability to teach efficiently. In addition to logistics, I want to integrate technology into my mobile classroom with music, video coaching, sample movement standards and data analysis. My students will view the functions of each muscle. They will receive information on why nutrition is vital for a healthy mind and body. We will plan our growing seasons for our school garden. They will be able to share with their families what healthy food choices are including simple seasonal recipes with a monthly newsletter. A classroom computer will create a fully interactive environment where all learning styles and domains are addressed.
