The Waverly Child Development Center began with a dream. My principal--Anne Griffith--was asked to develop a project that would make a difference in the lives of students. Anne designed the Waverly Child Development Center, an onsite preschool within Waverly elementary school. The ultimate goal of Anne's work was to ensure future academic success for incoming Waverly students by reaching them at what is now widely-recognized as the most critical life learning stage for future achievement. The Waverly Child Development Center currently is in its second year. Our attendance is up, and we will be serving a culturally diverse class of 31 three to five-year-old children who come from low socio-economic backgrounds. Our multi-age preschool has a morning and an afternoon session with transportation, and one meal provided. Our center regularly involves parents. Our classroom community experiences joy every day!
