For hundreds of years, teaching professionals have been attempting to find the most effective strategies to help struggling readers reach the same achievement as their peers. How can I make the most out of the 30 minute daily lessons I have with my students? Flexible seating in the classroom has 6 major benefits: choice, community, collaboration, movement, comfort, and sensory input. Students learn best with some control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to move and be comfortable in their space and they will build a sense of community while they learn to share, take turns, and work together. Many flexible seating options stimulate students' sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with ADD, ADHD, and ASD.
