The students in our class are diverse, just as is the city in which they live. They have different religions, races, abilities, and economic and family backgrounds. They are rich with diversity. They are wonderful. They are eager to learn and they truly amaze me with what they can do. They are also eager to play, stretch their growing social skills, and just plain have fun. They are first graders. They are asked to learn more new things during their first grade year than they possibly ever will be asked again, and all of this with their young short attention spans. It's my challenge as a teacher to show them how much fun it is to learn, and focus their energy into meaningful learning.
