Our staff has worked tirelessly to provide a positive and welcoming learning environment so that our students feel honored and can work at their best. However, as a new teacher, it is difficult to provide my students with a classroom that has the ideal décor, seating arrangements, and welcoming touches that would make my students feel at home in a way that many of them have never experienced. My students deserve an inviting classroom and a cozy classroom library that inspires them to learn and read every day. This project will help fund flexible seating such as a rocking chair for the classroom library, a bean bag chair, a bench to work outside, and floor cushions. Some of the décor includes a functional world map decal, an illuminated world globe, a zen garden, and plants to brighten up the room. I believe in equality for all children. Providing an optimal learning environment will not only provide a refuge for my students, but it will also allow them to learn to their full potential. What is the goal of my classroom learning environment? The learning environment that I am trying to build for my students will be a calming and Zen-like atmosphere where my students can let go of the stress they carry and get lost in a book, classroom discussion, writing, and more. They need a safe space where they can feel comfortable and can focus on their learning. Creating a calming and inviting learning environment is a way for me to strive towards equity in education. Many of my students don’t have a safe space at home. Therefore, it is essential that they have access to this at school. My doors will also be open after school so that students have a comfortable space to do their homework.
