Students will be designing, building, and testing a prototype robot that will help to clean micro plastics from the sand. Current sand cleaning machines only filter out large debris, this prototype will test the ability to remove harmful micro plastics from the sand. This project will allow the students to experience the peaks and valleys of scientific research. As a project-based learning example, students will be required to test and revise their model multiple times in order to achieve a viable, working robot. Items requested with this project include a motor controller that will allow the Raspberry Pi handle the required amperage and voltage of the motors running the robot. The servo controller allows the Raspberry Pi to control multiple servos without needing a breadboard. To simplify the electronic wiring and reduce space, we would like to have a stacking header. Working together as a team, students will rely on communication and critical thinking skills as well as collaboration and constructive discussion in order to reach a common goal. This project will provide insight into real-world engineering projects resulting in quality products that meet high standards and make an impact on our world.
