Currently our students have the option of sitting at a typical desk, or sitting on the floor to do their work. Flexible seating will help us expand the seating options in our classroom. By getting bean bag chairs, our students can find a quiet spot around the room for silent reading or to work on individual assignments. Some of our students have ADHD, so it is important that they have a place to release their energy, but still focus on what is being taught in the classroom. The stability balls help us accomplish this goal. The students can quietly bounce in place while working on assignments. The wiggle cushions also help with this. Our students also like to lay down while engaging in learning, so by having yoga mats, they can lay on the floor more comfortably. We've also found that our students like to kneel or stand while working. The kneeling pads and furniture risers will help meet this need. Flexible seating will benefit our students in more than one way. Each student will not only have a seat that meets their individual need, but that will also help engage them in classroom learning. In our room we believe in collaboration and team work, so by having sets of everything, we can group students based on flexible seating arrangements or by flexible seating preference. It is important that we continue to grow and change with our students in order to help meet their needs. By having flexible seating in our room, we will be able to accomplish that.
