The Dinner Party project is a longstanding tradition at our arts integrated school. History comes to life as 3rd Graders explore the characteristics of leaders, and present their knowledge with The Dinner Party. This inspiring production is our interpretation of the original installation created by artist Judy Chicago. Students will select an artist, inventor, philanthropist, entrepreneur, or innovator to study. This project combines their research on their person with visual imagery and symbols of their person. In the art studio, students create a place setting out of clay, creating 3 dimensional symbols representing their inspiring person. Students will also create a monologue based on their research, as well as create a costume, and a portrait representing that person. The project culminates every spring with an evening of performances and an art installation. These supplies will make our students successful and able to fully express their creative vision. The place setting includes a sculpted plate and appropriate goblet and silverware. The students create the sculpted plates out of clay that is fired and glazed. The many colored glazes are essential in creating a professional, finished look that echoes the work of Judy Chicago. In order for our students to be successful this year, we need additional glazes in many colors, for them to carefully create their masterpieces.
