These picture books are wonderful examples of how to compose different types of writing. They will be used as mentor texts to show my students examples of four different types of writing - personal narrative, fictional narrative, informational writing, and opinion writing.
These picture books will allow me to use them with all of the grades that I teach because they can be adapted to each level. I can use them to help identify the different components of each type of writing, no matter what grade is working with me. A picture book is a wonderful and engaging way to get a reader involved in the writing process. I have also been able to teach various types of grammar lessons using the same books.
I have used most of these books in the past and have been very successful with having my students understand the differences in the types of writing that they are required to do in school. However, I just started at a new school, and these books are not available in my school's library. I would like to have a set to keep in my room so that they are available to my students at all time to use as references.
