Listening centers are great tools for improving text fluency and literacy. Students are able to listen to a book they enjoy while following along in their own copy. This helps students understand how to read accurately, fluently, and with expression. This tool is especially helpful for English Language Learners, which we have many of in our school. ELLs are able to get a better sense of how words are pronounced while enjoying more challenging texts they may not be able to read on their own just yet! I plan on having the listening center be one station of my reading intervention block. Students will be in groups of 6-8 and they will spend an allocated amount of time listening to various stories they enjoy.
