I am a first grade teacher at a K-8 school in a highly diverse and low income community. In my district, most classes are made up of fifty percent or more English Language Learners who come from all over the world. These children come from families who have come to this country in search of a better life and education for themselves and their children. My 25 first graders are highly motivated and eager to learn new things. We spend a lot of time at the carpet area for important whole group instruction such as learning new skills and concepts, engaging with peers through partner talks, listening to stories, math number talks and much, much more! As class sizes continue to grow year after year our carpet has become thin and in poor condition due to a lot of wear. My students and I would be so excited for a bright, new comfortable carpet for whole group instruction, as I continue to help them learn and grow.
