Because my students are identified as special education, they come to school with challenges to learning. More than half of my students have ADHD or autism which makes learning a struggle because of focus issues. Wobble chairs and fidgets allow them the opportunity to move which improves their focus while a lesson is being taught. Other students have learning disabilities where repeated review of material is critical to mastering it. I have selected several games and activities that emphasize math facts and core reading skills in order to put the same skill in front of a child in multiple ways. The games will also help reinforce soft skills like sharing, taking turns, paying attention and teamwork. My students come from low income homes where, unfortunately, homework, reading and parental involvement are often not happening. It is important that my students get as much exposure to learning as they can at school so increasing focus and making time for repeated review with engaging activities is the best way to show growth in these students.
