Books are always exciting in a classroom where students are just starting to become readers. These non-fiction texts are written at levels that my students will be able to decode and comprehend. Students that come from poverty need the opportunity to play with and explore educational toys. These hands-on toys help develop fine motor skills, encourage out of the box thinking, and introduce engineering skills. Pocket charts help to provide visual aids for students. This is helpful for readers and non-readers alike. These pocket charts will be used to display vocabulary words, photos, and daily schedules for reading and math groups.
