A class set of dictionaries will serve students in numerous ways. Not only will access to such a reference tool positively impact fluency, but it also will help struggling students reach and potentially surpass grade level proficiency expectations. I see both English language learners and students with English as a primary language struggle with the spelling, understanding conjugation, determination of synonyms, antonyms, and definitions. I observe these deficiencies in students’ writing exercises, decoding of texts, and in their verbal communication. Obtaining the tools and learning how to use them are a potent combination in developing success generating skills. Having a reference at hand will enhance students’ vocabulary, comprehension, and communications skills all of which are important facets of an education that lead to student success.
