I teach the 3rd ESL classroom at Northwest School in LaSalle. Currently, I have 21 students in my classroom that I am responsible for teaching reading, writing, math, language workshop, spelling, social studies and science. Most of our students receive free/reduced price lunch. My students come from a variety of backgrounds-some good and some not so good. We have great parent support in our classroom. We are part of the big picture that teaches our students who come from various backgrounds-some were born in a different country and moved to the US when they were young and some just recently moved to the states. ESL students in general need hands on activities along with vocabulary. My goal is to provide activities for my students along with books for our population. It is important to send books home in their native language so their parents can help support the love of learning at home.
