I currently serve a diverse population of students. All of my students are unique in their own way, in that they carry different backgrounds, sets of experiences, cultural contexts, and qualities within them. As a math and science teacher, part of what makes experiences with my students interesting and memorable are the funds of knowledge of that they bring into the classroom. I enjoy when my students connect to something they are learning in my classroom because it is relatable and/or relevant to their lives. As a special education teacher, I have found that most of my students benefit from the use of visual supports. Linking colorful illustrations, diagrams, and/ or other images with scientific concepts, terms, and other phenomena provides my students with opportunities to make stronger, more meaningful connections to what they are learning. I also find that my students enjoy doing hands-on activities.
