I am a first year teacher and something that was instilled in me during my credential program is that, quality children's books matter. I am teaching 20 diverse Kindergarten students from many different backgrounds. Read alouds have become a favorite in our virtual classroom, but it has been challenging to get my hands on books that represent not only my children, but their varied experiences as well. These books already have a place in my curriculum. They will be tied with lessons that support critical thinking, connection and growth. Not only will my students be able to connect with the books, learn about other backgrounds, but they will also provide necessary Social Emotional Learning. SEL is the foundation to all of their lessons, especially during distance learning.
