I am a first-year School Counselor. My goal is to support all students to be successful academically, socially, and behaviorally. My students are currently needing guidance in specific areas such as: Friendship, Self-Concept, Behavior, Divorce, Death, Anxiety, Anger, Bullying, Negative Thinking, Focus, Self-Control, Depression, Social Skills, and Motivation. Many students are not living up to their academic success because they are experiencing difficulties in other aspects of their lives. Most students have never had previous experience with counseling and more resources are needed to provide students with creative activities and relatable stories. I will mainly be using the books in small groups and individual counseling sessions to help students engage in literacy skills and social emotional growth. The activity books will assist in role-playing, targeting emotion regulation skills, and learning healthy coping skills. Using these books will help in having discussions on how we can re-frame our thinking patterns, develop new skills and habits, process difficult life events, and cope with strong emotions in healthy ways.
