My students are in the process of digging deeply into literature for themes, character studies and diversity. Jerry Spinelli's Maniac Magee is a rich adventure that will help my students see through the eyes of different cultures and illuminate our own need for acceptance and appreciation for the gifts we all share. Jeffrey Magee does not see color, but he sees the good in everyone and the value of true friendship. Literature is the key to opening the minds of young readers and the talents of young authors. These novels will inspire original stories and thoughtful conversations creating deeper connections.
