Teaching and learning will be very different this year as my students will be learning from home. The tools we provide at school will have to be sent home for students to use. Each student will need a take home kit full of math and science tools. The two color counters are used to model various addition and subtraction strategies such as "make a ten" or "doubles plus or minus one." The unit cubes allow students to understand the concepts of place value and regrouping. The whiteboard will provide students a place to track their math thinking and share results with the teacher and class. Students will use plastic magnifiers to learn about the properties of matters. Magnets are also used to describe the properties of matter. Rulers will be used when we learn about measuring matter. The droppers are tools used to make observations. All of these science tools will be used to discuss how scientist make observations and describe what they observe which is a science process skill that students struggle with. Having these tools available at home to use will allow them to have some hands on learning experiences and make learning more fun and meaningful.
