I recently read Ibram X. Kendi's book, How to be Anti-racist. Kendi's book, as he makes clear, is book for all of us. It expands the conversation about racial equity and justice in moving and surprising ways. I imagine making this the center of our fall semester--reading, discussing, writing, reflecting, engaging, and creating in all manner of ways while addressing the California Language Arts Standards. It is crucial that I provide engaging material that honors their experiences and challenges our thinking--one man's journey of introspection that allows us to do the same.
