I would like to offer Maker Space materials and "space" through the library media center. Maker Space materials are anything with which students use to create, design, experiment and invent.
Our Maker Space will provide opportunities for students to use problem solving skills, logic, and creativity through STEAM activities. Students will engage in hands-on activities while practicing trial and error problem solving, communication skills, and perseverance in a safe environment to foster a growth mindset. These applied learning experiences will empower them with 21st century skills they need to succeed in college, career, and beyond.
The materials I chose to order for the Maker Space provide students with opportunities to: 1. code by drawing lines and using color segments or block coding such as Scratch; 2.imagine and build circuits and sensors; and 3. use green screen capability to make stop motion digital movies.
Students will have access to the Maker Space supplies through the media center. These materials will allow our school to offer a before/ after school Maker Club. As the media specialist and technology facilitator, I will collaborate with teachers to incorporate these materials and activities into their classes. Our students will also use these materials to participate in a global computer science awareness event called "The Hour of Code" which is meant to demystify coding and broaden students and teachers interest in the field.
