My students want to read, but my school doesn’t have many high-interest books at their reading level. Our reading program is based on student-centered book clubs of four students each. When they find a book they love, we don’t have the rest of the series and it is so disappointing to them! I want to keep the students excited about reading by providing them access to intriguing books along with the rest of the book series so they will keep on reading! I also want to provide relevant book sets of historical fiction instead of relying on online searches for short stories and articles. Sixth grade is such a pivotal year for creating life-long readers, especially in a low-income school, such as ours. While these books will directly be used with the 43 advanced placement students, they will be available to all 100 sixth grade students next year and every year after.
