7th graders are learning about World Geography, so we use maps to learn every day. Our current classroom atlases are almost 15 years old, and there are inaccuracies in them. They are falling apart, and there are pages missing in them. As IB (International Baccalaureate) world learners, it is important that the students study the entire world; physical and political geography, how people live/cultures, and how location affects culture. Basic geography skills, such as how to read a political map, require maps/ atlases with accurate political boundaries and countries. Students will use critical thinking while comparing different types of maps. For example- how does a physical map compare to population map? Why do people tend to live near certain natural resources?
