English Language Learners need to SEE what they are learning! The document camera will allow me to show students anything and everything on our large projector screen! I will be able to demonstrate exactly how to complete work and allow students to share their work with each other with this document camera. I will also be able to show real life items large enough for all students to easily see.
There are so many possibilities to bring learning to life with this document camera!
The I See, I Spell, I Learn sight word and homophone picture cards will help students learn and remember important words. English Language Learners typically have a difficult time memorizing sight words because they are words that cannot easily be sounded out and are hard to identify out of context, but since sight words are in so many texts, it is essential that students master these words as soon as possible. These cards will allow students to get an image in their head of each sight word. Homophones are a very challenging concept for all students, but especially trying for English Language Learners. These picture cards will give students very clear visuals to help them understand homophones.
The picture dictionaries will allow students to have resources when they are writing and will improve their vocabulary acquisition. Students' vocabularies will also increase through the use of the classroom picture labels.
I attended a conference and the presenter highly recommended the book, Smarter Charts K-2: Optimizing an Instructional Staple to Create Independent Readers and Writers, to help me create better anchor charts for students to be able to follow along and remember classroom lessons.
All of these materials will be used together to create the vividly visual classroom my students need!
