PURPOSE We propose a book club program that will help work toward getting our students more interested in reading for pleasure. As teachers we often have to ‘‘pull teeth’’ to get our students to read more books, even for an assignment. We would like to start a program that shows students that reading can be enjoyable and fun. In a society where most kids would rather watch reality TV or play videos games, we feel a program of this nature would help students not only in school, but also show them there are other beneficial ways to spend their time. A book club can give our students a safe and fun school activity. It will not only educate them, but will also entertain them. There are so many fantastic books out there and we would really love the opportunity to expose our students to these excellent authors. Help our students have an exciting environment that provides them with the opportunity to fall in love with reading. We want an environment where we can have carpets, bean bags, lamps, and bookshelves that students can use.
