Many students get confused about longitude and latitude on maps. Therefore, with this project, I am requesting large Post-it sticky easel pads, pencils, and crayons to help create a map on their own. Learning how to make a simple map can be applied to their real lives. When we apply relevance to their learning, they will retain the information longer. It is my hope they will take these geography skills and apply them to their lives later in life. More importantly, understanding geography helps us make sense of current and historical events, whether of economic, political, or social importance. Finally, studying geography builds important vocabulary and background knowledge about our country and world too.
